How to cancel discovery+
TL;DR
- Difficulty: 1/5
- Time estimate: 2 minutes
Step-by-step
On the web (fastest):
- Go to discoveryplus.com and sign in.
- Choose your profile (upper right) → Subscription.
- Check who bills you at the top of the screen, then choose Cancel Your Subscription.
- Confirm and watch for the confirmation email.
Billing-specific instructions:
If there's no cancel option on your account page, you're billed through a third party. Cancel there instead.
- Billed through Apple (iTunes/App Store): iPhone/iPad → Settings → your name → Subscriptions → discovery+ → Cancel Subscription.
- Billed through Google Play: Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → discovery+ → Cancel subscription.
- Billed through Amazon Prime Video Channels, Roku, or a TV provider: Cancel through that platform's subscription management.
Traps to expect
- Deleting the app doesn't cancel. Your subscription auto-renews until you cancel it.
- Cancel a day before renewal. discovery+ advises canceling the day before your billing date to avoid the next charge.
- Free trials end immediately. Canceling during a trial cuts access right away, unlike paid plans.
Retention offers
The cancel flow may offer the cheaper tier instead of leaving:
- Drop to With Ads: Going from $9.99/mo ad-free to $5.99/mo with ads keeps the whole library. Verdict: sensible if you'll keep watching reality TV anyway; otherwise cancel cleanly.
After you cancel
- You keep streaming until your subscription expires at the end of the billing period.
- A confirmation email is your proof of cancellation; save it.
Coming back
Sign back in at discoveryplus.com and pick a plan. Spectrum TV customers can also get the ad-supported tier bundled at no extra cost.
