How to cancel Prime Video

Step-by-step

First, figure out which thing you're canceling. Standalone Prime Video and full Amazon Prime are different subscriptions with different flows. Confusing them is the #1 trap.

For standalone Prime Video ($8.99/mo with ads, or $13.98/mo with the Prime Video Ultra add-on):

Go to primevideo.com on a web browser and log in.
Click your profile icon, then Account & Settings.
Open the Your Account tab.
Click End Subscription and follow the prompts.
Alternate route (same result): amazon.com → Your Memberships & Subscriptions → find Prime Video → Manage Subscription → Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls.

For full Amazon Prime (which includes Video):

Go to amazon.com, hover Account & Lists, click Prime Membership.
Click Manage Membership, then End membership (or End Membership and Benefits).
Click Continue to cancel past the benefits recap.
On the final screen, click End On [date] to keep benefits until the billing period ends.

App differences: You cannot cancel inside the Prime Video mobile or TV apps. Use a browser. But full Prime members CAN cancel in the Amazon shopping app (Your Account → Prime Membership → Manage membership → End membership). If you subscribed through Apple, Google Play, or Roku, cancel through them, not Amazon.

Traps to expect

The legendary "Iliad" maze is mostly dead. After the $2.5B FTC settlement in September 2025, Amazon was forced to simplify the flow. Post-settlement guides (June 2026) describe a two-step confirm, down from the old five-click gauntlet.

Still watch for:

"Remind me later" is not cancelling. It signs you up for a reminder email 3 days before renewal. If your goal is to stop paying, this option actively works against you. Skip it.
The benefits recap screens. Amazon will show you everything you'll lose, in full color, before every confirm button. Expected; keep clicking through.
Exact final-screen button copy varies by account. Expect the real cancellation button to be visually quieter than the "keep" options.

Retention offers

Pause membership: Pauses billing and benefits; you resume manually later. Verdict for rotation users: rarely better than cancelling outright. Cancelling is cleaner and resubscribing takes seconds.
Prime Access / student plans: 50% off if you qualify (EBT/Medicaid/student). Verdict for rotation users: irrelevant if the goal is zero spend this month; worth knowing if you ever want a cheap long-term hold.
Targeted discount or free month: sometimes offered on the final screens. Verdict for rotation users: take a free month if offered, but set your own reminder to cancel before it converts. Do not trust "Remind me later" to do it.

After you cancel

You keep full access until the end of the current billing period. The final screen shows the exact expiration date. Verify it stuck: check for Amazon's confirmation email, or revisit the membership page, which will now show an end date instead of a renewal date. Full refunds are possible only if you haven't used any benefits since the last charge.

Coming back

Log in to the same Amazon account and resubscribe. Watchlist, purchase history, and viewing progress are tied to the account and persist through cancellation.
